1 min read

Canterbury Police are appealing for information from the public following the assault of a woman in Ilam in the early hours of Friday 22nd July.

The woman was walking by herself through the Ilam Fields towards Waimairi Road when she was grabbed by a man and pulled to the ground.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Reeves says the offender threatened the woman and sexually assaulted her before running off.

“She is very shaken by what happened and is being supported by family, Victim Support and Police.”

Police are keen to talk to anyone who may have information that can help them to locate this offender.

"This occurred on the Ilam Fields between Ilam Road and Waimairi Road. We would like to hear from anyone who saw a man behaving in a suspicious manner in that area any time around last Friday," says Detective Sergeant Reeves.

Anyone with information that may be relevant to this investigation is asked to phone Christchurch Police on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
