Appeal for sightings of vehicle following Kaikohe hit and run

1 min read

Please attribute to Detective Treston Laybourn, Northland Police.

Police are appealing for information which may assist the investigation into a hit and run on State Highway 12, between Ohaeawai and Kaikohe, at around 11pm on Friday September 22nd.

Police are now able to release the name of the pedestrian who died  at the scene.  She was 67-year-old Wilma Laura Terore.  The driver of the car that hit her failed to stop.

During our investigation into this incident we have reviewed CCTV footage which shows a silver or grey Toyota Estima, which may be approximately a 2004 or older model, travelling nearby on SH12 just prior to the incident.

Police would like to locate the driver of this vehicle. We have reason to believe the vehicle will still be in the Kaikohe area and could have damage to its front.

If you think you may have seen this vehicle since Friday night, know who the driver was, or have other information which could assist with our investigation, please contact Kaikohe Police on 09 405 2960.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police is providing support to the victim’s family who are understandably devastated by this event.

We are determined to find the person responsible and hope you might be able to provide information which enables us to do this.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you think you may have any information.

The footage is available on our Northland Police Facebook page.
