Armed man contained in house

1 min read

Police say a man they are seeking regarding an armed incident is contained in a house in the small rural settlement of Frasertown near Wairoa.

Police began a search for Ihaka Paul this afternoon when he was seen in Wairoa chasing a male down a street with a firearm.  Police pursued him to Frasertown, where he is now in a local house.  Police have been in contact with Paul and will continue communication with him.

It is not known if there are other people in the house.  Children from local schools were released earlier this afternoon under the supervision of police.  The public is urged to stay away from the Frasertown area until Paul has been taken into custody.  He is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Police are unable to provide any more comment while the incident is ongoing.
