A 32-year-old man has been arrested following a dispute involving ex-flatmates in Wainoni.

Police were called to a Wainoni address at around 5.45pm last night.

A man had reportedly threatened another man with an imitation firearm and assaulted him with it.

A number of blank shots were fired.

The man who was assaulted received minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation.

A search warrant was carried out in New Brighton this afternoon in relation to the incident.

The Armed Offenders Squad assisted.

A 32-year-old man has been charged with assault with a weapon and using an imitation firearm, and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow (12 July).

Christchurch Police would like to remind people that it is an offence to threaten someone with an imitation firearm, and this type of offending is taken extremely seriously.
