Attention drivers – beware of high winds and snow

Motorists are being advised to take extra care on roads in parts of the South Island tonight.

Police are responding to reports that two campervans and a further 10 to 15 vehicles are stuck in snow on the Crown Range - Cardrona Valley Rd.

The council and roading contractors have been advised, and Police units with 4WD are attending.

In Westland, a tree has come down on Haast Pass Highway (SH6) between Haast Pass-Makarora Rd and Marks Rd.

Also in Westland, a tree’s fallen on Whataroa Highway at Harihari, between Main Rd and Oneone Rd.

In Canterbury, a tree has reportedly fallen on power lines on Homebush Rd, Coalgate – between Bangor Rd and Yeomans Rd.

All drivers are being urged to drive to the conditions and report any road blockages to Police.
