Auckland disruption pays off

1 min read

Disruption of a different sort took place in Auckland City today when the district’s Police set out to mess up the business of many involved in organised criminal activities.

Several search and arrest warrants were executed, a checkpoint was set up at the Ports of Auckland, known criminals were cold-called and visitors to Department of Corrections facilities had their vehicles checked.

Detective Inspector Chris Cahill says the object of the exercise, which was based on sound intelligence collated by the District Intel Unit, was to disrupt the activities of criminals involved in organised crime.

By 2.30pm today 12 people had been arrested, 144 vehicles had been checked, one person had been summonsed to appear in Court on drug related matters and more than 200 imported new vehicles at the port and 30 heavy vehicles had been checked by the Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit.

“Further to that, a clandestine laboratory was located in Mt Wellington and three firearms and ammunition were seized.

“More than 100 Police assisted by Customs Service and Department of Internal Affairs staff worked on Operation Disrupt and I’ve no doubt we achieved our objectives and enhanced the safety of all Aucklanders today.”
