1 min read

Auckland City Police are releasing footage of two one-punch serious assaults that occurred in the CBD within minutes of each other in an attempt to identify the offenders.

Both assaults were captured on camera and this footage is now on the Auckland City Police facebook page.

Though police do not believe the incidents were related, each is under investigation and the offenders are still outstanding.

Detective Inspector Chris Cahill says it is incredibly alarming to see such violent behaviour which we know from past incidents can have life-altering consequences for victims.

“The unprovoked attacks in these videos are appalling and we are appealing to members of the public who know who these offenders are to get in touch with the police immediately.”

The first incident occurred on 2 July 2016 just after 4am on Jean Batten Place The victim was punched once and knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack. He suffered a fractured nose, stiches to the head and bruises to his elbow, tailbone as well as cuts to his upper and lower lips

The second separate incident occurred just four minutes later at 4.05am on Fort Street. The offender punched two people, unprovoked, rendering both victims unconscious. The first victim suffered a concussion and a displaced jaw, while the second victim also suffered a concussion and a wound to his face.

Police are now urging any members of the public who may know who these offenders are, or have witnessed these events to contact Constable Luke Curran on 021 191 2672.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
