Body found on West Coast beach

Police have located a body which has washed up on Rapahoe Beach on the West Coast and are now working to identify who the person is.

The body was located about 8.45pm on Wednesday by a Search and Rescue team after Police had earlier been alerted by a member of the public to the possibility of human remains in the area.

Police have completed a scene examination and the body has been recovered. It will undergo forensic examination to establish the identity of the deceased person.

The Coroner has been advised.

No further information is currently available as to the identity of the person in question and formal identification is expected to take some time.
