Canterbury Police urge motorists to be cautious of high winds

1 min read

Canterbury Police reminds motorists to drive to the conditions while wind speeds in the area remain high.

Emergency services have responded to a report of an overturned truck and trailer this morning, as well as a tree which has fallen on a car.

Shortly before 7:30am this morning, a tree fell onto a car on Weedons Ross Road, Selwyn. The female driver was taken to hospital in a moderate to serious condition.

The road was blocked but has since been cleared.

At 9:25am, a truck and trailer rolled on Lewis Pass Road, Island Hills. No one was injured but a crane is required to move the trailer.

While the causes of both incidents will be subject to further enquiries, Police urge all roads users to reduce speeds and to drive with caution.

MetService has issued heavy rain and strong wind warnings for Canterbury, expected to remain in place until mid-afternoon today.
