Charges laid following Symonds Street crash

A 20-year-old Auckland man is facing a number of charges following a fatal crash on Symonds Street, Auckland, this morning. 
 
The man has been charged with driving with excess breath alcohol causing death, driving with excess breath alcohol causing injury, and failure to stop and ascertain injury.   
 
He will appear in Auckland District Court on Wednesday 27 December. 
 
The man killed in the crash was a 29-year-old taxi driver.   Police are currently speaking to the man’s family and will be providing them with support as they deal with their loss. 
 
Police would like to thank those members of the public who provided information and assistance immediately following the crash, enabling us to quickly apprehend the two people who fled from the crash scene.
