1 min read

At about 9:45pm on Wednesday 11 November 2015 Emergency Services were called to a crash in the Kawarau Gorge near Roaring Meg on State Highway 6, Queenstown.

The crash involved a single vehicle with six occupants.  The driver of a Ford Falcon station wagon failed to negotiate an easy right hand bend and collided with a roadside armco barrier.  One of the passengers, aged 54 years of Alexandra, received a suspected back injury and was eventually flown to Dunedin Public Hospital.  His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The female driver was processed for driving with excess breath alcohol.  She is aged 24 years and resides in Cromwell.  She is likely to face charges which include dangerous driving causing injury.

Another 54 year old male passenger, who was uninjured in the crash, was arrested when he allegedly assaulted attending Ambulance and New Zealand Fire Service staff.

The investigation into the crash continues but Police would like at this time to acknowledge the excellent work from the attending Ambulance and NZFS staff.

Should there be any further updates with regard this matter Cromwell Police will be the point of contact.
