1 min read

The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash near Taupo on Thursday has died in hospital.

The 31-year-old was the driver of a car which collided with a 20-seater bus, at the intersection of SH1 and SH30 at Atiamuri about 4:20pm on August 17.

Unfortunately, the driver passed away from his injuries in Waikato Hospital on Saturday August 20, and police's thoughts are with his family.

The Serious Crash Unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

Senior Sergeant Fane Troy, of the Taupo Area Road Policing Group, said this is a sad reminder to ensure we take extra care when behind the wheel.

"When travelling on our roads, drivers need to be vigilant.

"Do not drive when tired, when under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and always wear your seatbelt."
