Early morning attack on woman

2 min read

Wellington Police are currently investigating a sexually motivated attack around the area of the Terrace/Boyd Wilson Field/Victoria University.

Boyd Wilson Field is situated between the Terrace and Victoria University on Fairlie Terrace, Wellington.

This attack occurred when a young woman was walking home alone from the city at around 1.55am on Saturday the 19th of April 2014.

As she walked up the 'City to Sea' stairs from the Terrace into the walkway to the Boyd Wilson field she was attacked by an unknown Male.

Police believe the attack was sexually motivated.

The Victim in this matter screamed and fought off the offender who then ran down towards the Terrace.

The Suspect in this matter is described as:

Male Caucasian

Aged 25 - 30 years old

180 cm tall

Medium Build

Light coloured facial hair

Wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt

Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee of the Wellington District Crime Squad states

"We are really concerned about this offender preying on woman in our Community."

The area between the Terrace and Boyd Wilson field is isolated, dark and surrounded by bushes and trees. Unfortunately this Offender is using this isolated area to wait for woman to walk through alone and then attack them.

It is a common area for students to walk home back to university accommodation from town late at night or early in the morning. This is not a safe area and I am appealing to woman and students not to walk through this area. Please travel home from the city in a taxi or walk with your friends so you are not alone.

Police have increased their presence and patrols in this area and we will be working with Victoria University to address this risk area.

I would particularly like to hear from any persons that have seen any suspicious activity in the area or any person who has been assaulted in the vicinity of the Terrace, Boyd Wilson Field, Aro Valley and the University area that have not reported these assaults to Police.

We are determined to catch this offender and get him off the streets before he attacks again ".

Police would like to hear from anyone that have information relating to this incident. Anyone with any information can contact Police on 04 4723000 or on Crimestoppers 0800 CRIMESTOPPER - 0800 274637
