Police and emergency services attended a vehicle crash overnight in Alexandra on Coates Road, near the Airport just prior to midnight.
Three men were in a car that crashed into a tree. One passenger had moderate injuries and raised the alarm, while two other passengers were initially trapped.
One of the trapped men was taken to Dunedin Hospital via helicopter with serious inuries, while the other man died at the scene.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
The Serious Crash Unit are investigating and no further information is available at this time.
