At approximately 5.30pm this evening emergency services were called to a fatal crash on State Highway 2, Whakamarama, Western Bay of Plenty.
The crash involved a car swerving onto the wrong side of the road to avoid an object that had fallen from a truck in front of him.
The driver has then had a head on crash with a Truck and Trailer unit travelling in the opposite direction.
The collision caused the Truck and Trailer to roll onto its side and into a ditch. The Truck driver driver was shaken but not injured.
The driver of the car was killed. He was a male aged in his early 20's.
The crash which was situated near the Omokoroa Road turn off caused long traffic delays whilst traffic was diverted and the vehicles cleared.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
