Fisherman's body found

1 min read

Searchers have recovered the body of a man who fell overboard from a fishing boat off Napier early this morning.

Emergency services were alerted at 4.45am by the skipper of a commercial fishing boat, who reported one of his crew had fallen overboard.  The boat was about one nautical mile off the Port of Napier when the incident occurred.

A search was immediately launched, involving police, Coastguard, Search and Rescue and a rescue helicopter.  The man's body was found a few hours later about two nautical miles from where he entered the water.

Police are today interviewing everyone who was on the boat at the time.  It is not known at this stage how the man came to fall overboard.   The dead man's name will not be released until all family have been notified.
