Great family-focussed atmosphere at ICC Cricket World Cup Wellington

1 min read

Wellington Police are commending crowd behaviour at the ICC Cricket World Cup fixture between England and Sri Lanka at Wellington Regional Stadium this afternoon.

With around 18,500 fans in attendance there were no arrests and seven alcohol-related evictions over the course of the day.

Operation Commander for the event, Inspector Brett Amas, says the supportive crowd were obviously focussed on enjoying the game.

"It is great to see families and the kids out to enjoy another great game of cricket. The whole event has run very smoothly from our perspective and it is a credit to Wellington Regional Stadium and the ICC Cricket World Cup organisers."

"Patrols in the city and along the waterfront have also reported no issues requiring Police assistance."
