Helensville Police are seeking to locate 19 year-old Levi Hemana (picture attached to Police website).
On Monday afternoon as a 39 year-old Helensville man mowed his lawns, Hemana is alleged to have driven past, accompanied by a 17 year-old associate. As their car passed the man looked at Hemana, who allegedly took exception to this. Hemana allegedly stopped the vehicle, got out and said "what are you looking at?" before challenging the victim to a fight and threatening him.
Police say he then got back in his car and drove away. The victim got in his own car and followed the vehicle towards Parakai to try and capture the number plate. The car parked outside a liquor shop and the victim attempted to take a photo of the car rego with his cell phone but was seen by Hemana, who then allegedly ran towards the victim with a golf club, striking the victim's car and smashing the windscreen.
The victim was forced to run away, up the road, allegedly chased by Hemana and his associate, who swung the club at the victim. The victim was forced to hide behind a power pole and a sign post to avoid being hit.
The pair then fled. The 17 year-old was arrested a short time later and has been charged with assault with a weapon and intentional damage.
Levi Hemana is still outstanding and there is a warrant for his arrest. He has previously breached his home detention after allegedly cutting off his electronic ankle bracelet.
He is considered dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who knows where he is should phone 111 immediately. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
