Investigation continues into Upper Hutt home invasion

1 min read

Police are continuing their investigation after a 26-year-old female was assaulted in her home yesterday afternoon.

A Police specialist search team is undertaking a detailed examination of the property and other areas of interest near by. Police have already located items in the search which may be of assistance in locating the offender and they will be forensically examined.

The victim is being supported by Police and will be speaking with specially trained interviewers today to gain further details about the attack. The family have requested that their privacy be respected at this time and do not wish to speak to any media.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton says "Assaults like this are treated very seriously by Police. Attacks by strangers in a person's home are rare and are always very concerning".

"Police officers are speaking with neighbours and locals in the area to see if they saw anyone coming or leaving the property and Police will be stepping up patrols in the area".

Out of respect for the victim and her family Police will not be discussing the specific details of this particular situation.

Anyone with any information should contact Hutt Valley Police on (04) 560 2600. Information can also be provided anonymously to the Crimestoppers organisation on 0800 555 111.
