Canterbury Police investigations into the assault of two overseas men by a group of men in the early hours of Saturday (1 August 2015) morning are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Reeves says the two men, one from France and the other from UK, were discharged from Christchurch Hospital on Sunday (2 August 2015).  “The French man was nearing the end of his planned trip and we understand he is making his way home as scheduled.    The UK man has also left Christchurch.”

“Both men were lucky to not be more seriously injured during this violent assault.   Witnesses report a group of 6-8 men in their early 20s assaulted the two victims.  Investigators are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage from the area where the incident occurred.  We are keen to hear from anyone who has any information relating to this incident or witnessed the incident and have not already contacted Police” said Detective Sergeant Reeves.

Anyone with any information on the identity of those involved or witnessed the incident is asked to call Christchurch Central Police Station on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
