Man arrested for aggravated robbery in Whangarei

Police have arrested an 19-year-old man in relation to the aggravated robbery of a man in Whangarei’s CBD last Wednesday.

The offender appeared in the Whangarei District Court on Monday June 8 and pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated robbery. He was remanded in custody to appear for sentencing on July 7.

In the incident on June 3 a 36-year-old man was walking through Forum North carpark about 9pm when he was assaulted by four men who demanded money from him.

Following the assault the victim stumbled to the Whangarei Women’s Club in Rust Avenue.
The club’s members called Police and St John Ambulance.

Police are still seeking others who were involved in the aggravated robbery and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident in the Forum North carpark or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident.
