1 min read

A 41 year old unemployed Motueka man has been arrested after the Police Armed Offenders Squad and CIB executed a search warrant at a Woodlands Ave, Motueka, address this morning.

The arrest is in connection to an incident on 3 January in which shots were fired at another house in Woodlands Ave.

Several items have been seized at the address however no firearms have yet been located.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnston said Police were confident more than one person had been involved in the offending and inquiries were ongoing to identify others involved.

"We are continuing to receive good information from members of the public which we are following up.

"I want to assure the people of Motueka that we are devoting all available resources to investigating this matter and bringing the offenders before the court.

"I also encourage anyone who sees suspicious activity to contact Police immediately by calling 111 so we can prevent further incidents of this nature," he said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Johnston said Police had increased patrols in the area since the incident and these will be ongoing.

"I want to reassure the public of Motueka that their safety is our paramount concern and this sort or reckless behaviour will not be tolerated."

The 41 year old has been charged with Careless Use of a Firearm and Unlawful Carriage of a Firearm in Public.  He will appear in the Nelson District Court this afternoon.
