Police investigating an incident at Okere Falls near Rotorua in which a 17-year-old woman received critical injuries have arrested a 19-year-old man who is known to the victim. He has been charged with driving with excess breath alcohol, careless driving causing injury and driving while suspended.
The man will appear at Rotorua District Court on Monday.
The victim is undergoing surgery in Waikato Hospital and is still in a critical condition.
CIB members have interviewed a number of people, however would still like to speak to anyone who was travelling on SH33 between 3 am and 3.30 am near the Whangamarino School.
They would also like to speak to anyone who heard raised voices or a disturbance in and around this area.
