Man arrested for police hit and run

1 min read

A 28-year-old Napier man was arrested last night in relation to the hit and run of a Hawke's Bay police officer on Thursday night.

Robbie Richards was sought by police as he had connections to the silver Honda CRV that was involved in the incident, where the police officer was hit by a vehicle at a drink-driving checkpoint.

Richards was arrested late last night at a Hastings house.  He is due to appear in the Napier District Court on Monday in relation to two warrants for his arrest on unrelated matters.  No decision has been made yet on what charges he will be facing relating to Thursday night's incident.

Police are continuing their investigations into the incident.  The injured constable remains in Hawke's Bay Hospital in a stable condition with leg injuries and cuts and grazes to his face and arm.
