1 min read

A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a violent assault on a woman in Mt Albert early this morning.

The victim was walking to work along Mt Albert Rd around 5.10am when the offender allegedly attacked her and threatened her with a knife before he fled.

Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin says this was a traumatic experience for the woman and she is being provided with lots of support.

“Police responded swiftly to the attack and one of our officers was able to quickly identify the offender, based on information provided by the victim. He was apprehended soon after the attack which is a great result and has provided the victim with some comfort,” says Mr Baldwin.

The man is expected to appear before the Auckland District Court tomorrow facing charges including, abduction, assault with a weapon, sexual violation, and robbery.

No further comment is available as the matter is before the Courts.
