Man dies following crash in Gisborne

At approximately 8:30pm on Sunday 11 March Police responded to a single car crash on Ormond Road, Mangapapa, Gisborne.

The passenger in the car received critical injuries in the crash and was transported to Gisborne Hospital via ambulance. The driver received minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

The passenger, 29-year-old Wairoa man Terito Takekerekere Brown, was later transferred to Waikato Hospital and passed away yesterday afternoon.

Police extend their sympathies to his family and friends.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, has been charged with driving dangerously causing death, driving while disqualified and refusing officers request for blood.

He appeared in Gisborne District Court today.

The Serious Crash Unit investigation into the circumstances of the crash is continuing.
