Methamphetamine supply disrupted in Thames

1 min read

Police are warning anyone considering supplying drugs in the community that they can expect to be held accountable for their actions, following the conviction of a local man.

The 50-year-old man was sentenced on 16 July 2018 to seven years’ prison for possessing and supplying a number of illegal drugs, including methamphetamine.

The man was arrested when Police executed a search warrant at his Thames address earlier this month.

Detective Mark Leathem of Coromandel Hauraki CIB says Thames Police will continue to hold offenders accountable for drug dealing in our community.

“This substantial sentence should serve as a deterrent to anyone considering this type of offending.

“If you are involved in the supply of drugs to our community, you can expect to come to police attention and may very well end up facing similar consequences.”

Thames Police would like to thank the public for providing information which helped to get this result.

“We know that methamphetamine is a driver of crime in our community as users often resort to crime as a means to fund their addictions,” says Mr Leathem.

“We want to continue to work together to ensure we stop drugs such as methamphetamine causing more harm to our community.”

We encourage anyone who may have any information relating to drug related offending to contact Police or call Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.
