Tonight at about 7pm,  Tauranga police were advised of an overdue fisherman.

A 60-year-old local man went out fishing just after 7am this morning and was expected back around noon, but didn’t return.

He was fishing in an aluminium three metre long homemade boat, with a centre console and an outboard motor.

Tauranga Police have started a search and rescue operation to find the missing man.

The brother of the missing man spoke to three people at the Sulphur Point boat ramp at about 4.30pm this afternoon and these people remember seeing a boat fitting the description, anchored to ‘A buoy’ out at sea.

Police are very keen to speak to these people who claimed to have seen this boat.

If they or anyone  else has seen this boat or has any information, please contact the Tauranga Police immediately on (07) 577 4300 or simply call 111.
