1 min read

An 88-year-old man who was reported missing from his care home in Invercargill at about 7:30pm on Monday was found alive at 5:30am this morning.

He was found by LandSAR volunteer searchers in a ditch on Finlay Road approximately 1.5 kilometres from his care home.  He was wet, cold and muddy and has been taken to Southland Hospital.

Approximately 25 volunteer searchers from Invercargill and Gore LandSAR groups and the Invercargill Amateur Radio Emergency Communications (AREC) group along with five police search and rescue squad members were involved in the search overnight.

Police and family members are very grateful for the efforts of the LandSAR and AREC volunteers groups.
