Missing Matai Bay woman found

1 min read

Police have found the woman who went missing from her Matai Bay home last night.

About 7.30pm 78-year-old Emma Skerman went for a drive in her vehicle with her two dogs. Police were alerted when she didn’t return home.

Police searched the Karikari Peninsula overnight without success.
The searched was started again this morning.
About 10.15am the woman’s car was found stuck in the mud about 200 metres from the beach, half a kilometre from the lighthouse at the end of the peninsula.

The car became so embedded in the mud that the woman was unable to open the doors, so has she has spent the night in the car.
Police, with the help of some community members, are now towing the car out of the mud so they can free the woman.

An ambulance has been sent to the peninsula, so they can check on the woman’s condition.
