Name release: Tinirau Street death, Whanganui

Police are now able to release the name of the man who died in Taranaki Hospital on May 9, resulting in Whanganui Police launching a homicide inquiry.

He was 56-year-old Daniel John Gooch, of Whanganui.

Mr Gooch was found with unexplained injuries on Tinirau Street in Whanganui on April 20.

Police continue to investigate what happened, and would still like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in the Tinirau Street area in the early hours of April 20.

Police's sympathies are with Mr Gooch's family at this difficult time. The family has asked that media respect their wishes for privacy.
