1 min read

Auckland City Police have made an arrest in relation to the Grey Lynn homicide investigation.

A 16 year old male has been charged with murder and will appear in the Auckland Youth Court on Monday 3 November.

A post mortem examination has been completed and Police can confirm that 17 year old Luke Tipene of Glen Eden received a fatal stab wound.  Iwi Liaison and Victim Support is working closely with the family at this time.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard says that Police have made significant progress in the investigation today but still need to speak to a number of people who were in the vicinity of the assault at around 12:15am.

“It is a tragedy that a young man has lost his life in circumstances like these, during an incident which really should not have happened.  Ultimately this one incident has left the families of two young men devastated.”

Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is asked to contact Police on 09 302 6400.  Information can be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
