1 min read

Manawatü Police have launched an investigation after a 71-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by an intruder in her home in Palmerston North yesterday (4 August, 2015) evening.

A man entered the woman's home in the Fitzroy area of Church Street at about 6pm. He has then attacked the woman and sexually assaulted her before leaving the property.

The woman then immediately called police who quickly attended the scene.

Detective Sergeant Gary Milligan of the Manawatu CIB says: "This brazen attack was very distressing for the victim and we are continuing to provide her with the appropriate support."

"We are speaking with the victim to gather more details including a description of the offender and if any vehicle may have been used.

"Our area inquiries are ongoing and we want to speak to anyone that saw any suspicious activity in the Fitzroy area of Church Street yesterday evening between 5:30pm to 6:30pm."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Milligan on (06) 351 3781. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
