Police appeal for Myers Park witnesses

1 min read

Police investigating the fatal shooting of Slovakian national David Cerven in Myers Park on the evening of Sunday, August 2, want to hear from anyone who gave him a ride into the city, or part of the way, from the Glenfield area on Sunday afternoon or evening.

David left a Glenfield address at about 4.30pm after advising associates he would 'hitch a ride' to the city. Operation Delaware has established he was in the city by 7.30pm.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hooper says it's important Police speak to anyone who encountered him either en route to the city or in town in the late afternoon and early evening.

"As part of our background inquiries and in order to be clear about David's movements on Sunday, we'd like to hear from anyone who he may have spoken to over the three hours between 4.30pm and 7.30pm. David called Police from Myers Park at 7.23pm and was fatally shot by Police at 7.45pm.

"At the time of his death, David was wearing blue denim jeans and a blue and white checked shirt. It's possible that, at sometime in the afternoon prior to him engaging with Police, he was in possession of an orange high-visibility raincoat."

Investigators have established through viewing CCTV footage that several people frequented Myers Park on Sunday afternoon and evening, including a man who was wearing a hooded jacket and who possibly had a conversation with David while sitting on a park bench.

Anyone who thinks they have information that could assist Operation Delaware piece David Cerven's movements together should call 0800 533 591.
