1 min read

Canterbury Police are asking for the public’s help with an investigation into the alleged indecent assault of a woman near Cecil Place in the Waltham suburb of Christchurch at around 6.30pm last night (25 August 2015).

Detective Sergeant Ashley Ross says the victim caught the number 28 bus from the bus exchange.  “A man who got on the bus near South City Mall walked past the woman and sat on the back seat.  The victim got off the bus at the bus stop on Brougham Street near the Waltham Road intersection.  She noticed the man from the bus following her as walked down Cecil Place.”

“Police understand that the man has attempted to pull the victim down to the ground but fled the scene when the victim screamed and ran north along Cecil Place.”

The man is described as a Maori or Pacific Islander, approximately 20 years old, 172-175cm tall, normal build with short black hair wearing dark clothing.

Canterbury Police urge anyone who can help identify the man or who may have seen him on the bus or fleeing the scene to contact them by calling 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
