1 min read

Police continue to investigate a fatal crash that occurred on State Highway One, Pairere, South Waikato last night.

Two cars collided around 6:15pm.

Early indications are that one vehicle has crossed the centreline and collided with the other.

The passenger of the northbound vehicle has died at the scene

She has been identified as 27-year-old Alysia Jade Kelly, a Hamilton woman who was living in Sydney.

The driver of the northbound car is in Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.

The passenger of the southbound vehicle is also in Waikato Hospital in a serious condition, while the driver was discharged early today.

The road was closed for a period of six hours to allow emergency services to tend to the victims and conduct a detailed scene examination.

While the Serious Crash Unit will determine the cause of the crash, Senior Sergeant Fane Troy said that early indications were that fatigue may have been a factor.

“The area from Pairere to Tirau falls within that 2 hour window after leaving Auckland, the time that fatigue starts to take effect. Emergency services see too much tragedy on our roads. We encourage all drivers to ensure that they stop and take regular breaks, share the driving and stay alert.”
