Police investigating death of child in Massey, West Auckland

1 min read

Waitematä Police are investigating the death of a child who was found by family members in the driveway of their Massey home this morning.

Police were alerted by Waitakere Hospital at 12.37pm that relatives of Mila Tamihana, aged 18 months old, had rushed her to the emergency department, after finding her seriously injured on the driveway.

Her condition deteriorated and sadly she was unable to be revived.

Enquiries are underway to establish how the child received her injuries, but at this stage, details about the driver or vehicle involved are not yet known.

"At this stage we're speaking with family members and neighbours, some of whom are understandably too distressed to speak to us just yet. It will take a few days before we have a clearer picture of exactly how this tragedy has occured" says Det Sgt Eugene Pickett, Waitakere Police.

The Waitematä Serious Crash Unit is assisting in the scene examination.

Mila's family are being supported by a Police Iwi Liaison Officer and Victim Support. They have asked that the media respect their privacy at this time.
