Police investigating two suspicious fires in Christchurch

1 min read

Police are currently conducting enquiries into two fires in the Christchurch area overnight.

The first was at a building site in Addington at around 11.40pm last night.

The damage caused by the fire was not extensive, and there was no immediate danger to any members of the public.

The fire is currently being treated as suspicious. CIB and Fire investigators are conducting a scene examination to determine where, and how, the fire started.

The second fire was at an address on Main North Road, Kainga at around 1.30am this morning.

Vegetation on the outside of the property caught fire and spread inside the property boundary. The property at the address was not damaged by the fire.

Police are also treating this fire as suspicious, and Fire investigators are conducting a scene examination to determine the cause of the fire.

A Holden Commodore, or similar looking vehicle, was seen leaving the Kainga area soon after the fire started and Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a vehicle of this description in the area between 1.30am and 2am this morning.

Anyone with information that could assist with enquiries into either fire is asked to please contact Christchurch Police on (03) 363 7400, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

At this stage there is nothing to suggest the two are connected.
