Police have launched a homicide investigation following a sudden death that occurred in Mangawhai overnight.
Police were called to the Mangawhai address at approximately 8.15pm last night after a 2-year-old child died at the address.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to better understand what has occurred.
A 30-year-old male has been arrested and charged with Assaults a Child and will appear in the North Shore District Court today. Police are not ruling out further charges.
Police would like to reassure the community we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.
As the matter is under investigation Police cannot comment further at this time.
The matter has been referred to the Coroner.
