Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance after two youths escaped Police custody this afternoon in Gisborne.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, appeared in Gisborne Youth Court this morning charged with aggravated robbery.

They were remanded in custody and were being transported back to Gisborne Police Station when they escaped.

Police located the boys within 15 minutes with the assistance of members of the public who pointed staff in the direction the boys had gone.

They were found by Police nearby in Alfred Cox Park and returned to custody.
