Public disorder on Massey Road, Mangere

Police are in the early stages of their investigation into a fight outside a fast-food restaurant in Counties Manukau.

Police were called to reports of public disorder outside the KFC at about 5pm earlier this evening (Monday).

It’s estimated there were between 80 and 100 people involved, most of them male school students.

Chairs and bits of wood were used in the fight. Investigators have also been told knives were present during the incident.

Police did not encounter anyone with injuries at the scene.

Thirteen Police units were called to restore order. Upon arrival the students dispersed into smaller groups.

No Police staff were injured.

Five people were arrested.

A number of patrols have been made in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

Police are making enquiries to obtain CCTV footage of the event.
