Public warned to be wary of cheap designer sunglasses

1 min read

On Monday the 14th April at about 1.30am the Silverdale branch of OPSM glasses was the target of a 'smash and grab' style burglary.

The offenders used a large concrete paving stone to smash the shop front window before taking over 90 pairs of designer brand sunglasses with a value of over $25 000.

The brands included Dolce and Gabbana, Oakley, Oronon, Coach, Prada, Rayban, Ralph and Vogue.

The offenders fled the scene in a blue Subaru.

It's the second time the store has been hit in recent months.

In late March offenders smashed the front window and stole over $35 000 worth of designer sunglasses.

The Remuera Road branch of OPSM was also targeted on the 12th April and similar designer brands were stolen.

These sunglasses have 'LUXOTTICA' and a P moulded on the side and may still have tags or sale stickers attached.

Anyone who is approached and offered designer sunglasses at unusually low prices is asked to report it to Police.

The sunglasses normally retail for $129 - $530 a pair.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Nick Poland of the Whangaparaoa Police Station on 09 4246500 or email nicholas.poland@police.govt.nz

Information can also be given anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
