Quick arrest following attempted robbery in Christchurch

1 min read

Two men have been arrested following an attempted robbery in Christchurch this afternoon.

The two accused entered a dairy in Somerset Crescent armed with a knife and threatened staff. Nothing was taken and no-one was injured.

Police were at the scene quickly and were able to locate and detain the two alleged offenders nearby.

Detective Sergeant Brad Grainger says crimes such as this can have a big impact on victims and communities. All Police staff are committed to keeping the community safe and the quick arrests in today’s incident will hopefully give the community some reassurance.

“A fast Police response to this matter has resulted in two quick arrests, with support from a vigilant member of the public. This serious offending comes with significant consequences,” Detective Sergeant Grainger says.

The men, aged 29 and 36, have both been charged with assault with intent to rob and will appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
