Road conditions across the Southern region

1 min read

Southern District Police are urging all motorists to take care while driving and to delay non-essential travel as much as possible.

From black ice in Invercargill, to snow in Dunedin and Central Otago, road conditions are less than ideal across the district.

Motorists should check out their local council websites and the NZTA website for more information on road conditions and closures.

Top tips for the road if you need to travel:

  • Reduce your speed
  • Increase following distance
  • Ensure all windows are clear from ice/snow before driving
  • Use snow chains where necessary
  • If you have to brake, gently press your brakes rather than slamming them on
