The search for missing Upper Hutt woman Mary Berrington is continuing this morning.
Search and rescue teams will be undertaking an intensive search of properties and out buildings in the immediate vicinity of Mary’s home in Upper Hutt. The searchers will be easily identifiable by their uniform and will introduce themselves to people on the property when they arrive.
Sergeant Anthony Harmer said people who live in and around Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt should expect to see search and rescue teams in the area and shouldn’t be surprised to see them on private property.
“Our search teams will make themselves known to home owners when they arrive at a property. The teams will be searching gardens and bush areas of properties and any out buildings such as sheds or garages,” said Sergeant Harmer.
As part of the search operation the Police Dive Squad will also be assessing the Hutt River from the Totara Park overbridge south.
The search operation is being led by Wellington Police Search and Rescue with support from Land Search and Rescue teams from across Wellington and Horowhenua, Upper Hutt Community Rescue, Hutt Emergency Response Team and concerned family members and the community.
Mary was at home on the evening of 19 July 2016 and has gone missing sometime after this. Police hold grave concerns for her safety as Mary has a degree of mental impairment and may not be in a position to help herself at the moment.
