At approximately 12.15pm today, police attempted to pull over a vehicle that was driving dangerously near Papakura Town Centre.
It failed to stop for police and a short pursuit was initiated but quickly abandoned due to the offending vehicles reckless driving.
The vehicle has then continued on, without being pursued and crashed on Elliot Street, Papakura a short time later.
Two female passengers in the vehicle have received serious injuries and have been taken to Middlemore Hospital.
The driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended and is now in Police custody.
Charges will be laid.
Firearms were located in the vehicle and enquiries into this are ongoing.
