SH1 near Templeton reopens following serious crash

SH1 Main South Road reopened shortly before 2pm.  Canterbury Police and emergency services have cleared the scene of a serious crash involving three vehicles on SH1 Main South Road that occurred at approximately 11.20am this morning (26 January 2015).

Canterbury Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash where a blue south-bound car is reported to have veered into the other lane and hit a truck and trailer head-on before hitting the van travelling behind it.

The driver of the car and van were trapped in their vehicles for a 20-30 minutes.

The driver of the car has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.  The driver of the van was also taken to Christchurch Hospital and is reported to be in a moderate condition.  The driver and passenger of the truck and trailer unit were uninjured but badly shaken. 

Police investigations into the crash are underway.
