Motorists in the Ashburton area are being urged to take extra care in the strong winds.
A truck and trailer unit has been blown over on State Highway One near Dromore Road.
The road is closed and local diversions are in place.
Further north in Leeston a tree is blocking the southbound lane of Leeston Road near Chamberlains Ford.
Motorists are being urged to take extreme care and delay all non essential travel, especially those in high sided vehicles or on motorcycles.
