Suspect escapes custody

1 min read

Auckland Central Police have advised that 23 year old Brett Makiri, arrested earlier today in relation to a kidnapping and assault, has escaped police custody.

Mr Makiri was last seen wearing a dark t shirt, knee length shorts and white shoes. He does not have any other belongings with him and it is possible that he will ask for money or attempt to hitch hike a ride to his next destination. He was at the Auckland Central Police Station in Cook St, central city.

Police ask that anyone who sees Mr Makiri calls 111 immediately. He is considered dangerous and Police advise members of the public not to assist him in fleeing Police.

"At this stage we are very focused on Mr Makiri's recapture," says Detective Inspector Karyn Malthus. "However there will be an investigation into the circumstances of his escape."
