Teenage boy dies in quad bike accident near Kaikohe

A 14-year-old boy has died following a quad bike accident on a farm near Kaikohe early this morning.

It appears the bike has rolled into a ditch and has trapped the boy. He was found by a family member and taken to a medical centre in Kaikohe. The centre was closed, but ambulance staff arrived and carried out CPR for some time before he was pronounced dead.

The death has been referred to the Coroner and WorkSafe New Zealand is also investigating.

The boy has been named as Robert (also known as Robbie) McKenzie.
